Life in Krka as a digital nomad

Living, working remotely, and the Croatian DNV route from Krka — a practical 2026 guide.

The case for Krka

Krka National Park is the sun-drenched, citrus-and-olive-tree counterpart to Plitvice's alpine drama. The park's set piece is Skradinski Buk, a 400-metre run of 17 stepped travertine waterfalls cascading into a wide pool framed by reed beds and stone houses — the most photographed spot in the park (until 2021 you could swim in it; that's now prohibited to protect the fragile travertine, but the view is undiminished). Boardwalks loop around the falls through alder forest, and a network of restored watermills, fulling mills, and a small 19th-century hydroelectric station (one of the first AC plants in the world, switched on in 1895, two days after Niagara) tells the story of the river as a working landscape. The peaceful Roski Slap waterfall further upstream is another highlight, and a boat ride from there reaches the 14th-century Krka Monastery hidden in a lush canyon. Don't miss the medieval island town of Visovac, an Orthodox monastery floating in the middle of the river, accessible by park boat. Enter via Skradin (river boat into the park) or Lozovac (bus down).

Living in Krka as a nomad: frequently asked questions

Is Krka a good base for digital nomads?
Krka combines reliable infrastructure, an established expat community, and a Croatia DNV route that gives you up to 18 months of legal residence. The Croatian visa lets you live here without the 90/180 Schengen tourist constraint.
What is the internet like in Krka?
Most Croatia cities including Krka have widespread fibre, mobile 5G across the centre, and a growing coworking footprint. Plan to use a coworking pass or a flat with verified speeds rather than relying on cafés.
Do I need a Croatia DNV to live in Krka?
If you're staying more than 90 days in any 180 (the Schengen rule), yes — either the Croatia DNV or another long-stay residence permit. Short stays under 90 days are fine on visa-free travel or ETIAS from Q4 2026.
When's the best time to scout Krka?
May to October (no swimming in waterfalls allowed since 2021) Use the trip to test workspaces, neighbourhoods, and the Croatian bureaucracy before committing to a DNV move.
Can I bring my family to Krka on the DNV?
It depends on the Croatia DNV's family rules. The family planning page covers who qualifies, the income top-ups per dependent, and the partner-recognition rules in detail.
