Life in Sinaia as a digital nomad

Living, working remotely, and the Romanian DNV route from Sinaia — a practical 2026 guide.

Why base yourself in Sinaia

Sinaia is one of the most beautiful mountain destinations in Romania — a green Belle Époque resort wedged into the steep wooded slopes of the Bucegi Mountains, at the bottom of the Prahova Valley between Bucharest and Braşov. The headline sight is the magnificent Peleș Castle, the 19th-century summer residence of King Carol I of Romania, designed in 1873 in an extravagant German neo-Renaissance style with carved wooden staircases, frescoed reception halls, and one of the finest collections of European arms and armour outside Vienna. The visit (with mandatory guided tour) is one of the most evocative palace experiences in Eastern Europe. The smaller, more intimate Pelișor Castle next door was the residence of King Ferdinand and Queen Marie. Above the palaces, the Sinaia Monastery (founded 1695 by Prince Mihai Cantacuzino on his return from the Holy Land) is the spiritual heart of the town. Take the cable car up to the Bucegi plateau (around 2,000m) for the panoramic views, the famous Sphinx and Babele rock formations (wind-eroded into uncanny human shapes), and brilliant high-altitude hiking. Sinaia is also one of Romania's main ski resorts — the cable cars connect to Cota 1400 and Cota 2000, with reliable snow December to March.

Living in Sinaia as a nomad: frequently asked questions

Is Sinaia a good base for digital nomads?
Sinaia combines reliable infrastructure, an established expat community, and a Romania DNV route that gives you up to 24 months of legal residence. The Romanian visa lets you live here without the 90/180 Schengen tourist constraint.
What is the internet like in Sinaia?
Most Romania cities including Sinaia have widespread fibre, mobile 5G across the centre, and a growing coworking footprint. Plan to use a coworking pass or a flat with verified speeds rather than relying on cafés.
Do I need a Romania DNV to live in Sinaia?
If you're staying more than 90 days in any 180 (the Schengen rule), yes — either the Romania DNV or another long-stay residence permit. Short stays under 90 days are fine on visa-free travel or ETIAS from Q4 2026.
When's the best time to scout Sinaia?
May to October for hiking and the palaces; December to March for skiing Use the trip to test workspaces, neighbourhoods, and the Romanian bureaucracy before committing to a DNV move.
Can I bring my family to Sinaia on the DNV?
It depends on the Romania DNV's family rules. The family planning page covers who qualifies, the income top-ups per dependent, and the partner-recognition rules in detail.
