About Malta

Three islands in the middle of the Mediterranean, layered with seven thousand years of occupation — Phoenicians, Romans, Byzantines, Arabs, Normans, Knights of St. John, and finally the British, who left English as a second official language. Valletta is a baroque grid the size of a few city blocks, with Caravaggios in the cathedral and limestone bastions falling into the sea.

Mdina is the silent walled medieval capital; Gozo is the slower, greener sister island; Comino is one cove of impossibly clear water and almost no road. Diving is world-class. So is the rabbit stew. Don't leave without trying pastizzi.
