June–August, late October–March for aurora

A taste of Norway

The fjords are the headline, and they earn it — Geiranger, Nærøyfjord, Lysefjord, all glacier-carved on a scale that flattens photography. Bergen sits as the fjord-country base camp with wooden Hanseatic warehouses leaning over the harbor and a funicular up Mount Fløyen for the view.

The country stretches absurdly far north. Lofoten is jagged peaks straight out of fishing villages; Tromsø runs aurora chases in winter and a midnight-sun marathon in June; Svalbard tips you onto the same latitude as polar bears. Norway is expensive — bring sandwiches and hike. The trail network is free.

Travel tips for Norway

When is the best time to visit Norway?
June–August, late October–March for aurora is generally the most popular window for visiting Norway, with comfortable weather and most attractions open. Check our cities pages for city-specific timing.
Do I need a visa to visit Norway?

It depends on your nationality. Run a quick check to see whether you need a Schengen visa, ETIAS, or can travel visa-free.

What's the currency in Norway?
The currency is NOK.

Norway uses the Norwegian Krone (NOK). As a non-EU country, Norway has its own currency. Norway is largely cashless — card and contactless payments work virtually everywhere, even at rural fjord ferries. Vipps is the popular local payment app. ATMs exist but are increasingly rare as cash use declines.
